How can you give back to the community through the TAKE ACTION Job-a-Thon?


During the TAKE ACTION Job-a-Thon, when you call in to list your employment openings, you will inspire other business leaders like yourself to serve the community. By listing your opening through TAKE ACTION, you are taking the economic health of the community into your own hands and providing real, tangible employment solutions. TAKE ACTION – call 850-580-8678 Wednesday, February 23 anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to stand up a business leader and give back to the community. WORKFORCE plus, in partnership with WTXL ABC 27, the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County, Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce, Wakulla Chamber of Commerce and the GA Department of Labor introduce the first TAKE ACTION Job-A-Thon Wednesday, February 23, 2011, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Tech Challenge Professional Development Series - Free Microsoft Training

WORKFORCE plus is excited o bring you the "Tech Challenge Professional Development Series," a variety of workshops designed to assist area businesses. Each workshop will provide relevant and useful tools to assist businesses in addressing technology training needs.

The first workshop in the series, Microsoft Super User, will not only address basic computer skills but will also provide the framework needed to improve performance linked to daily tasks while expanding the user's knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel. Much like the workplace, this workshop is fast paced and supports the outcomes needed to ensure that the employee is well versed and able to perform their assigned job duties. As a value-added benefit, WORKFORCE plus will provide each attendee with a no-cost reference guide.

The workshop will be delivered through the WORKFORCE plus offices located in Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla counties. The first workshop will be held at the Leon office located at 2525 South Monroe Street on March 4th, 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. The Gadsden office, 1140 West Clark Street, on March 11th, 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. and the Wakulla Office, 3278 Crawfordville Highway, on March 18th, 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Healthcare In The Spotlight

The Spotlight series conducted by WORKFORCE plus is designed to gather numerous employers in one area and allow jobseekers three minutes to "sell" themselves with a group interview. Employers receive resumes and can ask questions throughout the presentation. "In the Spotlight" is a wonderful opportunity for job seekers to present themselves to local employers who wish to fill their open positions. The Healthcare spotlight will shine on employment opportunities specifically related to healthcare.

Resources Available to Help Train Current Employees

WORKFORCE plus and Workforce Florida Inc. are encouraging local for-profit businesses to take advantage of Incumbent Worker Training dollars available to businesses who have been in operation in Florida for at least one year and have at least one full time employee. Incumbent Worker Training grants, awarded by Workforce Florida Inc., can be used to cover the costs associated with training such as: instructor/trainers' salaries, curriculum development and textbooks/manuals.

Currently, there is over $750,000 available for Incumbent Worker Training.
