Opportunity To Be In The Spotlight
WORKFORCE plus, the workforce development board serving Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla counties will be hosting the 4th Annual Gadsden "In The Spotlight" event on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 beginning at 8:30 am at their office located at 1140 West Clark Street, Quincy. The Spotlight series conducted byWORKFORCE plus is designed to gather numerous employers in one area and allow jobseekers three minutes to "sell" themselves in a group interview. Employers receive resumes and can ask questions throughout the presentation. "In the Spotlight" is a great opportunity for job seekers to present themselves to local employers who wish to fill their open positions. The spotlight will shine on employment opportunities in a number of industries including healthcare, retail, etc.

Trends to Help You Plan Your Future
WORKFORCE plus wants to remind local job seekers that we are here to help. With the local unemployment rate sitting at 9.0% (Gadsden, Leon & Wakulla counties) WORKFORCE plus is encouraging job seekers to think strategically about their job search and career planning.
According to the most recent Help Wanted Online release published by The Conferencing Board on September 1st, management, healthcare practitioner and computer related industries continue to lead as the occupations with the most ads for our local area. There were over 5,000 job vacancies listed for the WORKFORCE plus area in the month of August 2010. This is an increase of 7% from August 2009 and a 3.5% increase from July 2010.
WORKFORCE plus has many opportunities for current unemployed individuals to seek retraining. Most programs, designed to be short-term or 6 months or less, are available locally through partnerships with Tallahassee Community College, Lively Technical Center, Gadsden Technical Institute and Wakulla Education Center.
Job seekers are also encouraged to take advantage of the free workshops and onsite training opportunities including Networking, Resume Writing, Interviewing and Dress, Credit Training and Microsoft Office training. Through the onsite training academies located at each office, persons can receive basic computer skills training as well as assistance with learning basic Microsoft programs such as Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access and Outlook.

WORKFORCE plus is excited to announce onsite training for Microsoft Office Specialist certification!
What is Microsoft Office Specialist Training Program?
The program covers the basic skills required to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access. Additionally, it will also prepare you for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams.

To be eligible to participate, you must meet income eligibility requirements and one of the following criteria listed below:
- Unemployed and/or laid off
- Underemployed
- Receiving public assistance
